“In total, the semester contribution amounts to 358.80 EUR. It includes a fee of 213.80 EUR for the transportation ticket contribution. This allows you to use local public transport in Berlin and nationwide for free. Other costs covered by the semester contribution include a 50 EUR enrolment fee, a 85 EUR semester contribution to the student support service ("studierendenWERK Berlin"), and a 10 EUR contribution to the student union.” www2.daad.de
- Application fee
- 75 EUR for the first application, then 30 each
Charged per semester and non-refundable regardless of the outcome. Ten programmes would be 345 EUR.
Tuition-free does not mean free: the Semesterbeitrag is payable every semester even where tuition is €0, and it moves on the calendar year because the transit ticket does.

15 July and 15 January are conventions, not facts — uni-assist’s own wording is oft am 15. Juli, and it warns that institutions increasingly set earlier dates. Where a programme uses uni-assist, its deadline runs earlier still. Always confirm on the institution’s page.
