“FAU does charge tuition fees for students from non-EU states. Using the fee finder, you can quickly check whether you are required to pay tuition fees. Irrespective of tuition fees, all students are required to pay a semester contribution of 82 EUR per semester. As of winter semester 2026/27, FAU will be charging a processing fee of 100 EUR per application for applicants from non-EU states.” www2.daad.de
- Application fee
- 75 EUR for the first application, then 30 each
Charged per semester and non-refundable regardless of the outcome. Ten programmes would be 345 EUR.
Tuition-free does not mean free: the Semesterbeitrag is payable every semester even where tuition is €0, and it moves on the calendar year because the transit ticket does.

15 July and 15 January are conventions, not facts — uni-assist’s own wording is oft am 15. Juli, and it warns that institutions increasingly set earlier dates. Where a programme uses uni-assist, its deadline runs earlier still. Always confirm on the institution’s page.
